Pekin Child Care Center Receives Support for Garden
Pekin Child Care Center was thrilled to
hear that Pioneer Hi-Bred has chosen to support their children’s
garden by awarding them a $2200.00 contribution.
Jefferson/Keokuk AIM Empowerment has also notified the center that
they approved their mini-grant request for $5500.00.
Fairfield Hy-Vee, Wal-Mart, Mahaska Drug,
Yards of Color and Sigourney Dollar General Store have also
graciously donated plants and yard ornaments to the garden.
Numerous families have also donated perennials to the center.
Wonderlich Brothers Construction also donated labor for the stage
area inside the garden.
Co-Director, Deb Kephart said that this
funding would offer the center the ability to finish design plans
and have the financial security to maintain the garden into the
future. While this project has taken many hours of manual labor,
the children’s smiles and observation of their learning has been
the staff’s greatest reward. The staff looks forward to many years
of enjoyment and learning from this outdoor classroom. We once
again offer a sincere thanks to everyone that has helped to make
this garden a reality.
