P.E. Classes Play Soccer

By Luann Swanson

November 04, 2009

We are off to a great start this year in Physical Education.  The k-1-2 students have been working on soccer skills such as dribbling, trapping, passing, and punting.  They also spend each day working on their 8 locomotor movements used as warm-ups each day. They are learning to pronouce, spell, and memorize these 8 which are walk, skip, hop, jump, leap, slide, run, and gallop.   They are using foam hurdles outside and are really enjoying leaping over hurdles in the grass.  Starting with first graders, they are being instructed how to punt a soccer ball.

The 3-4-5 students have been working hard building up their cardiovascular systems by running the 1/2 mile in class while preparing for fitness tests later this month.

They have worked hard on mastering soccer skills through drills and games.  The 5th grade students are showing their 6th year of skills in soccer and are able to do very well in their 6 on 6 soccer tournaments.

The student named teams for the double elimination tournament are:

Sidekicks

Hawkeyes

Werewolves

Timberwolves

Chargers

Spirit

Firecrackers

Eagles

Gatorades

The championship game will be the Chargers vs. the Firecrackers!!
