The Pekin Community School District’s School Improvement Advisory Committee met on October 25, 2011 in the Media Center.  A large group of parents represented grade levels and specialty groups within the district.  

The meeting began with the district’s mission statement, long-term goals and previous SIAC goals being reviewed.  Following, district data regarding the common and alternate assessments were presented and discussed.  The presentation also included statistics regarding the graduation class of 2011 and the senior class of 2012.  Results from the Iowa Youth Survey in grades 6, 8, and 11 were also given to the group and there was discussion of how to improve results.  The technology goal and status of technology used in the district was also presented and the large group presentation concluded with changes that have taken place in education at Pekin in the last ten years.  Mr. Dotson presented the Governor’s Education Blueprint plan and discussed possible effects that it may have on education.

The large group sub-divided into specialty advisory groups, which included elementary, middle school, high school, special education, and talented and gifted.  Each group work suggestions for goals as well as talked about area of growth for their given area.
