Pekin Spanish Club Scavenger Hunt 2011

The Pekin Spanish Club enjoyed their annual night out on the town scavenging this past November 8th.  It was dark, cold, rainy and, according to many students, a lot of fun.  Students were put into groups of 5 - 6 and handed a list of 50 different items to locate around the main square in Fairfield.  They had to use their Spanish from class to identify each of the items.  The groups took pictures of their finds.  They tried to find places where more than one thing could be in the same picture.  What they couldn’t find they invented using themselves and what was available around them.  Each group met back at the gazebo at the designated time wet, cold and laughing.  We then went to eat at “La Hacienda” restaurant on the west side of Fairfield.  Everyone attempted to order in Spanish and to speak and listen to the wait staff as they ate chips, fried ice cream, salsa and, of course, Cheese Dip!  The food was good and the laughter filled up the restaurant.  Mr. Hadley and Ms. Coffin took video of some of the goings on.  Students immediately asked when we were going again.  Everyone must wait till next year.  We want to thank Ms. Kreber, Mrs Wittrock, Mr. Mohr, Ms. Coffin’s Sister, Ms. Scholtus and Mr. Hadley for going with us and to Mr. Hadley for driving our bus.  Our next big event may be trying to cook ourselves a meal for Christmas time.

The Spanish Club is also sponsoring a community service project to help out the Women and Children’s Crisis Center for our area.  We are collecting varied items to send to the shelter around Christmas to help with their needs and costs of operation.  There is a list of items that are being collected and information about how and where to donate items in another article posted here on the website.  The items on the list are meant to be individually sized or travel sized so that they may be given out to the different families that need assistance at the shelter.  We will be collecting items through December 9th so that they may be gathered and given to the center in Christmas Gift bags.  If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact me, Sra. Coffin.
