Pekin Elementary School Fundraising Overview

By Dix, Janice

January 17, 2012

This is a little information to inform everyone about the programs that the Pekin Elementary School participates in and their purpose.  There are many ways to be involved.  Thanks for your support.

1. General Mills Box Tops for Education Program

For every box top clipped the school receives $0.10.  This year the school has collected $820.10.  The money is going toward purchasing some library books for the K-8 grade students and purchasing decks of cards for math fact practice for these grades as well.  Janice Dix is the coordinator for this program.

2. Land O Lakes Save Five for Schools Program

For every CLEAN gallon jug lid of Land O Lakes milk, chocolate milk, or orange juice saved the school receives $0.05.  There is a minimum of 1,000 lids preferably 2,000 that must be collected before redemption can take place.  The school has collected 418 lids so far.  Janice Dix is coordinator for this program.

3. McDonald’s Neighbor’s Program

Save your McDonald’s original receipts from Fairfield or Keokuk to turn into the school.  Each receipt collected is a point.  After collecting points, they can be redeemed for educational materials such as

- Art supplies

- Classroom/Teacher aids

- Library supplies / furniture

- Audio/Visual equipment

- Science / Math items

- Playground / Physical Ed. Equipment

What can be purchased depends on the amount of points needed.  The categories for points are from 0-750, 751-2000, 2001-4000, 4001- 7500, 7501 on up.  This is a limited time program.  The PTO is organizing this program.

4. Campbell’s Labels for Education Program

Clip and save the UPC labels from qualifying products like Campbell’s soup, V8, Dannon Kids’ Yogurt, and many other partners.  The school earns points that then can be traded in for art, athletic, or academic products.  The amount of points needed depends on the item selected.  Di Parcell is taking care of this project.

5. Pop Tabs for the Ronald McDonald House Charities

Save the pop tabs from cans of soda and turn these into the school to help recycle and raise money for Ronald McDonald Charities.  The amount the charity receives depends on the weight, but RMHC Upper Midwest raises approximately $30,000 a year through their pop tab program.  This helps support families of children staying in the hospital over an extended amount of time.

6. QSP Magazine Fundraiser

The elementary students just received information on this program last week.  The money made from this fundraiser will assist in the cost associated with field trips.  The school can no longer charge parents for this so we are raising money to take care of this cost.
