New Trees at Pekin

 Story image 1_0

It was a beautiful May 1st day when all of Pekin Elementary took part in planting new evergreen trees near the football field to replace trees cut down in the fall due to disease.  All K-5 classes had an opportunity to help plant trees for an hour each throughout the day.  Trees Forever and Alliant Energy joined together to help finance the matching funds grant secured by school board member, Jennifer Coleman.  Special guests from Trees Forever and Alliant Energy, along with Pekin Superintendent Mr. Whipple, addressed the K-5 students and staff before participating in ceremonial tree planting with selected students. The newly planted trees will quickly be part of the existing wind break, and provide coverage for spectators attending Pekin events.  As students grow, so will the trees they helped plant.  Thanks to Jennifer Coleman, Alliant Energy, and Trees Forever for coordinating this project.
