Go The Distance
Go The Distance Day (GTDD) is a FREE, one-day event encouraging Iowa schools to engage their students in 30 minutes of continuous activity.
The mission of GTDD shows Iowa youth that physical activity is fun and healthy! The program increases public awareness of youth physical inactivity and the need for physical education programs and recess in schools!
On Friday, May 3rd, the Pekin students and staff in grades K-5 met in the gym and exercised for 30 minutes. Students were led by 5th graders who have been their morning exercise leaders for this school year. They moved to music and stayed active the entire time. It was very exciting to watch all 293 students moving to music and enjoying themselves.
It is a goal of the Physical Education department to encourage all students and their parents to be active every day at home as well as at school. This activity shows one of the easy and fun ways to move 30 minutes and have a good time while getting healthier. We hope being active becomes a habit
for our students.
