News from Elementary P.E.

This month in physical education all classes have been enjoying their time inside the gymnasium without any weather to worry about. K-2 has been working on scooter safety and scooter games, throwing and catching, and also holiday activities. 3-5th grade has also been working on throwing and catching along with cooperation games, and holiday activities.  All K-5 students got a little taste of Pound Fitness this month as well. Mary Anderson, an instructor in Pound from Fairfield, IA came to Pekin and taught the students a group fitness work out.  The fitness included lightly weighted drumsticks and the students worked out to music doing cardio and strength straining with yoga and pilates-inspired movements. The students loved it and even were a little sore the next day. All students are still learning a new brainercise every month to keep their bodies moving and awakening their brains in the morning. In the coming month students will learn/practice how to jump rope and the 5th grade will be getting ready for their jump rope act during the basketball game coming up at the end of January.
