January's Classroom Spotlight
“4th Grade Science & Social Studies with Ms. Winslow”
“Teacher? I prefer Educational Rockstar!”
Can you believe it? We have finished our first semester here at Pekin! Today I will share another “rockstar” teacher who is new to Pekin this year. 4th graders this year had the privilege of learning about science and social studies with Ms. Winslow. Let’s learn a little more about the amazing things happening in her classroom…
Ms. Winslow has joined the 4th grade team where she inspires students to learn more about science and social studies through hands-on activities. When you think back to elementary school, you will always remember that special teacher who did cool experiments and engaged all students. Ms. Winslow is “that” teacher…this year her students have completed science labs, created social studies presentations, and utilized tons of NEW technology for STEM. Why is this important? Students learn by doing! It’s as simple as that! Students combine activities that involve movement, collaboration, and exploration, which help activate the many parts of the brain.
Students, staff, and families have seen how dedicated, influential, and engaging Ms. Winslow is with her students. She continues to inspire our young people as well as our staff at Pekin. A fellow colleague added, “Ms. Winslow is energetic and always positive with the students.” Another colleague added, “Students enjoy her class because of her enthusiasm for teaching and her use of technology. She’s always willing to jump in and help students and teachers.”
Ms. Winslow is helping students develop the 21st Century skills needed to be successful in the real world. When students were asked about Ms. Winslow’s classroom they responded with, “She’s really cool and we do a lot of fun experiments. We really like creating things on the computers.” Props to Ms. Winslow who exhibits Panther Pride!
