After returning from Christmas break kindergartners have been learning about Iowa weather. Our below zero temperatures have brought on great discussions as to why we cannot have recess. They are also patiently waiting for us to get a great snowstorm! We will continue to learn more about weather and how it changes throughout the year. They will also be thinking about how the weather can affect animals and their habitats. Kindergartners will be studying types of animals, habitats, and their needs. At the end of our unit each student will be doing a research project on the animal of their choice.
While having fun learning science, we are still working hard to become great readers. We’ve started taking our letter sound knowledge to a new level and learning about digraphs. They’re reading words with sh, th, ch, and wh. They are up for the challenge to read harder words! Our sight word vocabulary is growing tremendously right now. We are practicing sight words everyday so that we can know them by heart! Their excitement to read and learn keeps growing as they gain more confidence.
