Pekin Community School District to Begin Using an Automated Calling System

In an effort to be better able to notify district patrons in the event of a school delay or closing, Pekin Community School District has entered into an agreement with Saf-T-Net AlertNow that will provide Pekin with an automated calling service.  This calling service will work directly with Pekin's PowerSchool Student Information System and will have the ability to place an automated voice call to all of the patrons of the district in a short period of time in the event of a school closing or delay, or for other school related announcements.

Pekin Community School District will begin using this service the evening of Wednesday, September 23, 2009, when we will conduct a "practice call."  This call will take place between 7 and 8 p.m. that evening and will serve as a measure of determining how accurate our contact list is within our student information system.  Patrons do not have to be home during this time in order to receive this call, as the system is capable of delivering a voice message to an answering machine or voice mail system.  Once the "practice call" has been completed we will be able to get information from the calling system that will give us an in depth summary of what numbers were not valid phone numbers, what numbers were not answered, as well as what numbers received some sort of answer.  At that point we will be working to update our contact list here at the school in order to make sure that all of our student's parents have the chance to be added to this calling list, so that no one is left out of the calling system.

If you have a student that attends Pekin Community School District and do not receive a call on Wednesday evening, or you would prefer that the call be placed to a different number, please contact one of the building secretaries and provide them with an up-to-date contact number that you can be reached at.  If you would like to opt-out of the calling service, please contact Dustin Coleman, Pekin Technology Director, in order to get your name removed from the contact list.  Once the list has been updated we will begin using the system for school announcement and notifications.

If you have further questions about the AlertNow calling service, or would like more information about what options you have as a parent, please contact Dustin Coleman, PCSD Technology Director by phone or email.
