Communication Update-  6/29/30

I just wanted to update you on where we are at as a district and dealing with COVID-19 planning for next year.

The infamous return-to-learn (RTL) plan.  First, I think it is essential that you understand that the only thing that is due on July first are assurances.  These assurances are things that we will be required to have in our plans moving forward.  The exact plans are not done at this time.  There are seven headings in RTL; Leadership, Infrastructure, Social-Emotional-Behavioral-Health, Iowa Academic Standards, Equity, Data, Safety and Health We have been working really hard as a team to create two plans for our district (continuous and on-site).  We have all of the fundamental questions answered at this point, but we are waiting until a little closer to the school year to really get deep in the weeds on specifics.  We are waiting because the information and expectations change so quickly.  It makes sense to have general plans of what is expected; it doesn’t make sense to have a very detailed plan for the current situation because we all know how much things have changed over the last three months.

We believe that we will be going back to brick-and-mortar school (on-site) with health and safety precautions in August, but we are prepared to be virtual if needed.  We will ensure our students and staff have a safe environment to learn and work in for next year.  Things will look a little different next year as we try to spread students out and implement new procedures to keep the building clean and safe.

We will be working with those students who have a health issues or have an immediate family member who is high risk.  There may be scenarios where we have a few students learning from home along with the students who are learning in the classroom.  I will be sending more out in mid-July talking about our transportation plan and on-site procedures.  I ask for parents to be patient during this time.  Things will change and most likely change again during this time of uncertainty.   I will say we need to get kids back into school into an educational routine not only for their academic learning, but their mental health.

As always if you have a questions or concern, please give me a call at 641-224-2524.
