1st Grade News

It's GREAT to be back in SCHOOL!  

We're off to a wonderful start to our first grade year with 49 students present!  We, as teachers, feel first grade is an important learning year where many successful school habits are formed.

It's also equally important to form a partnership between school and home.  This relationship benefits your child the most!  Students get the best of school and home, working together, to form a bond that brings each child success!

We find that one crucial item that your child carries with them daily is their 'Take Home' folder.  Lots of information travels in your child's folder, making it a messenger between home and school.  There can be great conversations about the papers that your child brings home!

Spelling is presented weekly in our reading lesson.  Students take a Pre-test on Monday, (look for it to come home) and a Post-test (which is graded) on Friday.  The spelling words follow our reading lesson all week and are used and practiced at school, but your help at home is needed.

Also in your child's Take Home folder, you will find a ring with colored words on it.  These are our Rainbow Words (sight words) and they follow the progression of our reading.  We have had several students return their 'Red Words' and are ready for the next colored words.  Each set of colored words increase in difficulty, but will be practiced at school, as well as from home.

Lastly, Math Home Links have been coming home.  These short mini lessons are our homework for Math.  Math homework covers the days' lesson and may even review information we have covered previously.  Again, students benefit greatly from your assistance and we ask that math homework be returned the following day.
