Mask Update for Students and Staff
I wanted to notify you that starting this coming week we will be asking all staff and students to wear masks when they are within six feet of each other regardless of the time. This will ensure we do not have to quarantine students and staff who potentially are near someone who is positive for COVID. With that said, there is a level of common sense that is involved in this situation. If there are classes that are small enough to social distance in classrooms, those staff and students will not be expected to wear a mask if they do not want to at that time. Students involved in activities that have movement like PE, athletics and recess will not be expected to wear a mask.
By stepping up our mask posture for the next several weeks we will be able to reduce the number of students we will have to send home for 14 days to quarantine. When both individuals are wearing masks and one of them are positive for COVID, only the positive case needs to quarantine. The other student wearing a mask can continue to come to school. Our county is seeing a spike in cases and this will allow us to get ahead of the impact that it could take on the school. This will allow us to keep more students and staff at school and to continue our face to face instructional model.
We will have disposable and cloth masks on hand at our buildings for students to use, but your child is welcomed to wear their own mask to school as long it is school appropriate. We will assess the situation in 3-4 weeks to determine if we can change our mask posture.
