1st Grade News
The first graders have been using Accelerated Reader this year. Students are able to take quizzes over books at their level, which is determined by the Star Reading Test.
Each child has been given a goal of 6 or more points for the 2nd quarter. Most books are worth .5 points, so the students will be responsible for taking 12 or more quizzes this quarter. There will be a reward at the end of the quarter for students who meet their goal.
Quizzes will only be done in the classroom and are not allowed to be done outside of school time. Students can quiz over library books, books off the bookshelf, and books that we work on together during centers. Books can also be brought from home and quizzed on. You can go to arbookfind.com to see if a book has a quiz and what level the book is.
This is a great way for teachers to check if students are understanding what they are reading. It also provides students with an extra incentive to read more books!
We would like to thank the parents who are taking the time to read the Take Home books with their first graders. We are seeing an improvement in their decoding and fluency skills. It’s great to see their confidence in reading take off!
